Capacity Development

 

Assisting the positive and rigorous development of the social sciences in developing and transition economies is a key priority for the ISSC. CoDATE was set up to advise the Council on the detailed design and implementation of actions intended to deliver this objective in the next four years. Such actions will include mapping social science training and development needs and enhancing the impact of funding research capacity development.

CoDATE is chaired by Dr. Adebayo Olukoshi, Executive Secretary of the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA). Other members of the Committee include:

• Dr. Atilio Boron, Director of PLED, Latin American Program of Distance Education in the Social Sciences, Argentina
• Dr. Renee van Kessel-Hagesteijn, Director Social Sciences and Director WOTRO Science for Global Development, the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research, Netherlands
• Dr. Khotso Mokhele, Vice-President for Scientific Planning and Review, International Council for Science
• Dr. Seteney Shami,Programme Director Eurasia; Middle East and North Africa; International Collaboration, Social Science Research Council, USA
• Prof. Dr. David Thorns, University of Canterbury, New Zealand
• Dr. Wanda Ward, Assistant Director, Directorate for Education and Human Resources, Natural Science Foundation, USA
• Dr. Yang Yang, Director General,International Cooperation Bureau, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), China
