|
| Executive Secretary of the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize | |

Your
Majesties, UNESCO fully appreciates the honour that you do it by coming to take part in this highly symbolic ceremony. It is with pride that it welcomes you here to Yamoussoukro, in this Foundation which President Félix Houphouët-Boigny put at its disposal to "construct the defences of peace in the minds of men", and thus to continue to fulfil its universal mission. This ceremony will comprise two special tributes. The first will be paid to Yitzhak Rabin, former Prime Minister of the State of Israel, joint winner of the Prize, of whom his people who loved him are now tragically deprived; the second tribute will be to the Sage of Africa, President Félix Houphouët-Boigny, sponsor of the Prize, who lives on in our hearts and minds. Each of these two tributes will begin with the projection of a film which will bring back moving memories. We shall once again see Mr Yitzhak Rabin delivering his address at UNESCO House, on 6 July 1994, during the award of the Prize which he received in recognition of his action to promote peace in the Middle East. Then, President Félix Houphouët-Boigny will address this illustrious gathering to remind us of his great ambition for his people, an ambition still wholly relevant today. Lastly, the ceremony for the award of the 1994 Prize to His Majesty King Juan Carlos of Spain and President Jimmy Carter, represented by his son, Mr James Earl Carter III, will begin with a musical performance by the Republican Guard of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire. Your
Majesties, Thank you very much for your kind attention. |
