Knowledge Transfer

The Knowledge Transfer theme (1989-1992) was undertaken as part of the GARS Africa Project and combined scientific research in the field of geological remote sensing with the transfer of knowledge in the technical aspects of geological remote sensing to scientists in the participting African countries.

Objective of the Knowledge Transfer theme

The Knowledge Transfer theme was devoted to training national specialist teams in geological remote sensing.

Methodology

Specialist training in geological remote sensing was implemented through the installation of image processing stations and the acquisition of satellite imagery for research and training purposes.

Once the image processing stations were installed, an important role was to provide maintenance of the equipment.

Following on from the specialist training, a “National Investigation Program” and an “International Investigation Program” were initiated.
