Status of Coral Reefs of the World 2002
Joint UNESCO-IOC, UNEP, IUCN, World Bank biennial report, 378 pp., English only.

Describes case studies on coral issues and dispels doubts as to the value of establishing no-take areas to protect fish stocks and encourage better coral growth; notes that, four years after 16% of the world’s coral reefs were destroyed by massive global coral bleaching during the big El Niño year, half are showing signs of recovery; predicts that many of the world’s coral reefs will continue to decline, owing to increasing levels of sediment and nutrient pollution from sewage and agricultural runoff, and massive over-fishing (including using bombs and poisons).
