International training workshop in the development of high-tech clusters

9-11 October
UNESCO and the World Technopolis Association (WTA) are organizing a training workshop during the WTA General Assembly. The workshop is part of the UNESCO- WTA Cooperative Project, which is designed to help developing nations build technological capacity by providing them with technical support and policy advice in the development of high-tech clusters. The training workshop is being held in Daejeon Metropolitan City in the Republic of Korea. For details of the workshop, click here.

 

Workshop on the fundamentals of science park management

14 September
UNESCO and the International Association of Science Parks are organizing a pre-conference workshop at Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. Ministerial roundtable on STI policy at ECOSOC meeting

1 July
During the High-level Segment of the meeting of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York from 30 June to 3 July, UNESCO is organizing a breakfast meeting. From 8:30 am until 9:50 am on 1 July, the Director-General of UNESCO will chair a discussion by Ministers on the theme of Science, Technology and Innovation policy: a Key to Sustainable Development. The discussants will include the Minister of Communication, Science and Technology of Tanzania and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Egypt. Read the draft programme. Science, Higher Education and Innovation

1-4 July
UNESCO’s Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Venice (Italy) is organizing a policy forum in Budva (Montenegro) which will bring together ministers, parliamentarians, representatives of academies, universities and research funding bodies from Southeast Europe. Two sub-regional fora in Africa for parliamentarians

11-14 March
African parliamentarians responsible for proposing or debating bills on science-related issues are to meet this year for two sub-regional fora organized by UNESCO. The first covering Central Africa is due to take place in Brazzaville (Congo) from 11 to 14 March. The second covering East Africa is tentatively scheduled for December. Science with Africa

3-7 March
To foster the contribution of science to the development process in Africa, the UN Economic Commission for Africa and African Union is organizing a conference on Science with Africa, in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) in collaboration with the private enterprise Intelligence in Science and UNESCO. The conference will focus on methodologies for improving the level of participation by African-based scientists and science-based organizations in international collaborative R&D Projects.
