Science for Peace

Recognizing that different civilizations over the ages have contributed towards Science and in the belief that Science is a powerful means of dialogue and mutual understanding, the UNESCO has undertaken activities aimed at strengthening co-operation between Israelis and Palestinian scientific institutions. In this context and in the wake of UNESCO's Round Table on Science for Peace in the Middle East (Paris, November 2002). UNESCO gives its support to the Israeli-Palestinian Science Organization (IPSO).

The launching of the IPSO within the International Community took place in Paris on the occasion of the Word Science Day for Peace and Development, November 2004.

Nobel Price Laureates, representatives of American and European scientific institutions, attended the meeting. On that occasion several concrete projects of present and future joint cooperation in different fields (scientific education, water etc) were presented.

On the occasion of the World Science Forum, Budapest 10-12 November 2005, a special session on Science for Peace was jointly organized by UNESCO and IPSO.
