Publications on Science Policy

UNESCO publishes documents under the Science Policy Studies series launched in 2005 and monographs under the UNESCO Reference Works series. All monographs published under the latter series are for sale via UNESCO Publishing.

The present site is managed by UNESCO Headquarters in Paris but UNESCO's Regional Bureaux for Science in Venice (Italy), Cairo (Egypt), Jakarta (Indonesia) and Montevideo (Uruguay) also publish in science policy. Some of their publications may be accessed via these pages.

Other Publications

These webpages also host publications which examine the policy angle among other aspects of specific science- or environment-related topics.

UNESCO has collaborated on the online Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems.

Another branch of publications deals specifically with issues of relevance to Coastal Regions and Small Islands (CSI) and encompasses several different series.

General newsletters and booklets

UNESCO publishes a quarterly journal which may be consulted freely. The journal brings readers up to date regularly on new developments in UNESCO’s work related to the natural sciences, including that in science policy. Click here to consult issues of A World of Science and to request a free print or online subscription.

At the Summit of the African Union in January 2007, UNESCO’s Director-General distributed a booklet to all delegations on UNESCO’s work, entitled Science in Africa. This booklet may be consulted freely in French and English.
