Over the past two decades, UNESCO has set up a number of regional networks which operate under its auspices. Several of these networks were set up within UNESCO’s University-Industry Partnership (UNISPAR) programme.
These expert networks are made up of researchers and institutions from within the region. They provide policy and management personnel in the countries of the region with research and training to help these countries formulate or review their national science, technology and innovation (STI) policies.
UNESCO works closely with these networks. UNESCO’s offices in Beijing (China) and Jakarta (Indonesia), for example, worked with the Science and Technology Policy Asian Network to assist the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science of Mongolia in developing a Master Plan for Science and Technology in Mongolia to 2020, published in 2007.
