THAÏLAND Message from H.E.Mr.Phinij Jarusombut Minister of Science and Technology on the occasion of the World Science Day for Peace and Development 10 November 2002
Because of the rapid advances and changes of information, communication technology, politic, trade, international economic and technical cooperation, as well as creation and dissemination of knowledge, we are in the midst of what could be called a knowledge revolution age. Every countries are challenged to catch the fast moving train of revolution, especially in scientific knowledge led to innovation. For developing countries, science, technology and innovation are becoming the most important factors for their competitiveness and social welfare. This poses new challenges for Thailand, likewise other developing countries, to keep pace and accelerate her production sectors aware of the importance of knowledge creation, the necessity of adoption and adaptation science and technology with traditional indigenous intellectual to be country’s asset for higher productivity, better standard of living and self-reliance. Holding the World Science Day for Peace and Development by UNESCO is a good opportunity for all countries, both member and non-member countries to recognize and aware of the importance of creative cooperation and exploitation of science and technology. Also, the access of scientific and technological information with solidarity and equity are promoted regardless of transcendent nations, religions and ethnicity. On behalf of the Ministry of Science and Technology, it is my great pleasure to express my heartfelt congratulations for every success of this celebration and hope that this event will play a crucial role in projecting the current and future cooperation on science and technology for both regional and interregional development.
