Dr. Keiji Tachikawa, President of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Koïchiro Matsuura, Director-General of UNESCO signed a cooperation agreement through which JAXA will assist UNESCO by bringing the benefits of space technology to the monitoring of World Heritage sites.

On Monday 26 May, the European Space Agency (ESA) invited UNESCO to take part in the 9th Conference of the Parties of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), held in Bonn, Germany. The conference was well attended and UNESCO took part in a special side event organized by its partner, ESA.
