Thousands of copies of Declaration and Science Agenda circulating in China

27 April 2001 Some 5,000 copies of the Chinese version of the booklet containing the Declaration and Science Agenda adopted at the World Conference on Science are presently being distributed across the country.

Copies are being circulated to Ministries, Provincial Commissions for Science and Technology and Education, universities, academies and other relevant institutions including UNESCO research and training centres.

The Chinese National Commission for UNESCO and UNESCO Beijing Office joined hands in November 2000 to publish the booklet, which reproduces the design of the English version. The booklet now exists in a number of languages besides English, including Arabic, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian and Vietnamese.

The national distribution drive has considerably enlarged the Conference’s impact and outreach in China. Compact enough to slide into a coat pocket, the handy booklet gives Chinese readers easy access to the key documents and is a valuable source of guidelines for follow-up activities to the Conference.
