The second regional meeting of the nine Asia and Pacific countries participating in UNESCO’s Literacy Initiative for Empowerment (LIFE) programme took place from 21 to 24 January 2008 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was jointly organized by UNESCO Dhaka, the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) and the Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education/Asia Pacific Programme of Education for All (APPEAL). LIFE focal points from both national governments and UNESCO offices reviewed what has happened so far, exchanged and learned from prior experiences and discussed the LIFE implementation strategy, as well as analysing innovative approaches to literacy and non-formal education (NFE).
