Africa

Africa is a priority regional focus of UIL's work, with the aim of strengthening capacities of governments and civil society in literacy, non-formal education and adult education in the African region. This is done through supporting the works of the African Union (AU) and the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) in collaboration with governments, civil society, academic institutions and the private sector in and outside the region. UIL is providing technical support in the development of curricula, the training of facilitators and the development and implementation of sound monitoring and evaluation systems. Education and learning implications of critical issues in the region such as multilingualism, HIV/AIDS, gender disparities and post-conflict policies are addressed in the research, policy advice, capacity-building, and advocacy and networking organized by UIL.
