Mid-April update: Registrations received for CONFINTEA VI

As of 15 April, 123 of 193 UNESCO Member States have confirmed that they will be taking part in CONFINTEA VI in Belém this May. A fair proportion of the delegations from Member States will be headed by their respective Ministers or Vice-Ministers of Education, 75 of whom have confirmed their attendance to date. More »

Meeting of Francophone Countries in Preparation for CONFINTEA VI, Lyon - France

The Agence nationale de lutte contre l'illettrisme (ANLCI) and the French National Commission for UNESCO, in close collaboration with UIL, the Organisation internationale de la francophonie (OIF) and the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, will organize a CONFINTEA VI preparatory meeting from 11 to 13 February 2009, in Lyon, France. The theme of the meeting, "Enabling sustainable literacy: preventing and fighting illiteracy", will bring together Ministers and Directors of Education and Culture, NGOs, and representatives of bi- and multi-lateral agencies from the 54 OIF countries. UNESCO conference will review adult education for equity and inclusion in Europe, North America and Israel

Adult learning and education in Europe, North America and Israel are the focus of a conference to be held in Budapest from 3 to 5 December 2008. Hosted by Hungary and coorganized by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, the conference will bring together education ministers and other government representatives with multilateral partners, regional NGOs, experts and stakeholders from the private sector, universities and the media. In support of UNESCO's Literacy Initiative for Empowerment (LIFE), UIL has developed a Resource Pack which includes reports on LIFE meetings, publications on effective practices in literacy, flyers and CDs containing research-based advocacy documents on literacy. The LIFE Resource Pack was designed to help advance LIFE, the UNLD and EFA, and is now available on request. More »
