2013 UNESCO International Literacy Prizes
UNESCO is committed to supporting effective literacy policies and programmes. To that effect, the Organization honours excellence and innovation in the field of literacy throughout the world.
Every year, on the occasion of International Literacy Day (8 September), UNESCO awards the International Literacy Prizes to institutions, organizations and individuals whose efforts contribute to the promotion of dynamic literate societies.
Two of the programmes receiving a UNESCO International Literacy Prize in 2013 are covered in the Effective Literacy Practices Database. The successful programmes contained in LitBase are:
- The «Saakshar Bharat Mission» of the National Literacy Mission Authority of the Ministry of Human Resource Development in India will receive one of the two UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prizes.
- One of the UNESCO Confucius Literacy Prize is awarded to the Dhaka Ahsania Mission in Bangladesh. The Mission’s “Ganokendra” (People’s Centre) Programme is featured on LitBase.
