Nominations for the Prize must be proposed to the Director-General of UNESCO by Member States in consultation with their UNESCO National Commission and IHP National Committee.
Nominations may also be proposed by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) which have formal relations with UNESCO. Each nominator may make only one nomination in any biennium.
The nominee may be an individual, a group of individuals or a research institution. A brief biography for each candidate or group of candidates, together with a detailed description of the work for which the nomination is proposed and an assessment of the results achieved should be submitted with the nomination.
Each nomination shall be accompanied by a 2 signed letters by 2 referees, not related to the candidates, who are familiar with his work.
Nominations may be submitted only in English or French.

- Meeting of the Jury: UNESCO Headquarters, 22 October 2007
- Award Ceremony: World Science Day for Peace and Development, on 10 November 2007, at the Hungarian Parliament in Budapest
The nominations to be considered officially for the prize award have to be sent by post as certified and signed letters.
