From 2005-11-15 to 2005-11-15
Venue: Tullamore Court Hotel, Tullamore, Co. Offaly (Ireland)
Summary:
The Irish National Committees for the International Hydrological Programme (IHP) of UNESCO and the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) organise a non-profit National Hydrology Seminar as an annual event. Initiated in 2000, the Seminar has since become a regular November event, drawing audiences of over 150 delegates from a range of backgrounds and sectors.
Society is at risk of extreme hydrological events, now more than ever before, as the frequencies of extreme rainfall, fluvial and tidal flooding, as well as droughts, appear to be on the increase. Continued development on floodplains and coastal reaches means that the risk of flood damage to society is also increasing and implies added pressure on water quanity and supply.
Within this context, the 2005 National Hydrology Seminar aims to highlight the understanding of hydrological extremes and to provide an insight into approaches to their sustainable management.
