Summary:
The purpose of this UNESCO-IHP-International Sediment Initiative (ISI) Workshop is to provide a forum for open discussion as well as to identify research needs and priority topics with respect to sediment-related issues in South and Southeast Asia. The venue in Bangkok has been selected to engage with the MRC for discussion of the main issues related to erosion, sediment transport and sedimentation in the Mekong River from the headwaters to the estuary. More specifically, the discussions will focus on watershed and channel processes and the environmental and socio-economic impacts of sedimentation in the region.
