From 2007-03-20 to 2007-03-20
Venue: Zaragoza, Spain
Summary:
Water is an unevenly distributed resource in the Mediterranean region, both in terms of space and time. The situation is worsened by overexploitation and the degradation of resources, which restrains economic growth, is detrimental to the poorest populations and endangers globally important aquatic ecosystems, as well as putting upcoming generations’ future at risk. Water distribution is increasing (a standard result of rising demands) and reaching the local limit. In almost all riparian countries of the Mediterranean, distribution is facing growing social, economical and environmental problems. In view of these challenges, the 7th Permanent forum will analyze ways to attain sustainable water use in the region.
