Summary:
The objective is to present the results of the
UNESCO FRIEND (Flow
Regimes from International Experimental and Network Data) research programme that has stimulated international
cooperation in the field of hydrology. A focus will be bridging the
gap between knowledge, research and practical applications.
The
Conference themes will cover:
1. Hydrological data - policy, international rivers, databases, real
time dissemination
2. Managing hydrological risk - floods, surface and groundwater
droughts
3. Water scarcity, over-exploitation and poverty reduction
4 Sustaining water-related ecosystems - definitions, methodology and
operation
5. Continental hydrology - regimes, water sharing, teleconnections,
snow,ice, international basins.
Conference Proceedings will be published as an IAHS Red Book
publication and summaries of poster papers will be available on a CD
at the conference. A FRIEND Report, summarising FRIEND activities from
1998-2002 will also be published.
