From 2007-06-11 to 2007-06-17
Venue: Lanzhou, Cina
Summary:
The UNESCO/IHP programme for Water and Development Information for Arid Lands - A Global Network (G-WADI), in collaboration with the Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAREERI/CAS) is organizing a training workshop dealing with groundwater modeling in arid and semi-arid areas.
Groundwater is a major component of water resources in arid regions. Additionally, the interaction between groundwater and surface water is very complex in these regions. Computer models and other new technologies such as isotopes are providing quantitative tools for characterizing these processes. A better understanding of groundwater dynamics through the proper use of groundwater modelling tools will help people to manage precious water resources in watersheds of arid areas.
The topics of this workshop include groundwater modelling in arid areas, the application of stochastic groundwater modelling in arid areas, isotope techniques in groundwater research in arid areas, and the interaction of surface water and groundwater and the modelling in arid areas.
