Summary:
In collaboration with the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) and many other international and national organizations, the National IUGS Committees in the five Nordic Countries (Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Sweden) are organizing Geoscience World Congress 2008, under the overall theme "“Earth System Science: Foundation for Sustainable Development". The Congress will span the whole field of Earth Science, binding together classical geology with geophysics, geochemistry, and the biogeosciences.
The Scientific Programme will comprise symposia, workshops and short courses in 40 parallel sessions, including sessions on the theme of hydrogeology, such as Groundwater resources and management; European approaches to management and monitoring of groundwater in hard rock aquifers; Groundwater and engineering geology in bedrock; Hydrogeological aspects of Quaternary geology and climate change; Groundwater development - experiences in low-income countries and from developmental aid and disaster areas; Groundwater flow and water-rock interaction in compact fractured rocks; Management of coastal aquifers; International perspectives on karst aquifers and water resources; and Hydrogeology of Hindu-Kush Himalayas.
