Summary:
Apart from glaciers, groundwater is quantitatively the most significant freshwater resource on the planet Earth. At the same time, it is most often used and preferred drinking water resource. Groundwater ensures the continuity of streams during dry periods and the survival of numerous wetlands and oasis, which sustain biodiversity.
The Conference would address:
- the preparation and implementation of groundwater component of water management plans for large river basins;
- the importance of the aerobic state of groundwater, and of the processes which are driven by the level of the aerobicity;
- climate change and its impact on groundwater; and
- management of urban groundwater basins: mitigation of water quality impacts from anthropogenic threats.
