Summary:
The main goal of the Forum is to identify and promote effective and sustainable solutions to the water problems, and foresee the priority action to help the Arab region preparedness to meet water challenges related to people, food, nature, energy, health, and education. The Forum is a major regional activity in the Arab region and is regarded as a oreparatory event for the 6th World Water Forum and the UN Conference on Sustainable Development - Rio+20.
UNESCO-IHP will have 2 special sessions in the 2nd Arab Water Forum, namely:
- Special session on “Capacity Building for Climate Change Impact Assessment and Adaptation Studies” in joint collaboration between the UNESCO Cairo Office (UCO) and Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources; and
- Special session on ”Deepening water crisis in arid and semi-arid region, and the role of the International Hydrological Programme (IHP) of UNESCO”, in joint collaboration with G-WADI and ICIWaRM.
Additionally UCO will have a technical contribution to Theme 3: Sustainable and fair solutions for the transboundary rivers and groundwater aquifers, including an intervention on “Water diplomacy in action for sustainable peace in the Arab region”.
