Summary:
The scope of this meeting is to present an integrated description of the complete estuarine reach, from freshwater to saline parts, a multidisciplinary approach to the functioning of an estuarine ecosystem, a scientific background for management issues, and views on future research needs. Topics will include:

- morphological changes in the estuary and consequences on hydrodynamics
- freshwater management in the Scheldt Basin
- methane and nitrous oxide in estuaries
- environmental risk assessment of contaminants in the Scheldt estuary: exposure and effects.

There will be discussion on many other subjects concerning estuaries in general, and focusing particularly on the Scheldt Basin.
