Summary:
The International Water Management Course aims to provide participants with a profound understanding of the global and regional water situations, especially that faced by the industrialized countries. The course is targeted at decision-makers and professionals in the water management and urban infrastructure fields (executives from industry, government agencies, NGOs, and consultants). It aims to equip them with the socio-economic, technical and scientific background to promote and pursue economically sound and ecologically and socially responsible water policies and management practices. The course is designed for approximately 20 participants. Preference will be given to applicants with a minimum of five years' relevant experience.
The course is organized in modules combining core lectures and discussions. Casestudy work in small groups is emphasized. Participants are expected to bring their own professional expertise to these exercises. International faculty will draw on their current research and work experience. Course topics include hydrology, aquatic ecosystems, technical infrastructure planning and operation, as well as water uses and water stresses. Additionally, the course will delve into economic and regulatory instruments and institutions as they exist and are emerging within OECD countries, including management practices like river basin management.
