Summary:
The conference attempts to bring together a number of scholars from different scientific disciplines, policy makers, and practitioners to discuss the main challenges facing the management of Central American transboundary river basins. This one-day conference will assess four dimensions in the management of Central American transboundary river basins:
- the potential for conflict and cooperation in these river basins,
- institutional mechanisms at work for transborder cooperation such as the Pro-cuenca plan (San Juan river basin) as well the Trifinio Plan (Lempa river basin),
- the economic valuation and the environmental services provided by Central American transboundary river basins, and
- the progress made in the region in the water and climate dialogue, the cases of Guatemala, Costa Rica and El Salvador will be presented and discussed.
