From 2003-02-11 to 2003-02-14
Venue: Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Summary:
Second International Symposium on the Management of Large Rivers for Fisheries: Sustaining livelihoods and biodiversity in the new millenium.
LARS2 will be a global forum for the sharing of information related to fisheries in large rivers. The horizons of knowledge have expanded away from the original functional biological bias of the First Large Rivers Symposium to include issues such as livelihoods, participatory management, conservation of biodiversity and rehabilitation of river ecosystems, valuation of large rivers and the emergence of new methods for obtaining, communicating and using information from river systems.
The panel format adopted for the major part of the meeting will allow many more contributions to be considered by the panels than would be possible in a classical serial presentation of papers. The panels will synthesise the knowledge presented but there will be plenty of time for debate and discussion during the sessions. There will also be opportunities to view the papers and discuss them with their authors during the accompanying poster sessions.
