Summary:
The abruptly intensified anthropogenic pressure on the mountain territories, degradation of land and plant resources and ecological processes have negatively influenced not only most parts of the runoff zone of Aral basin and processes of streamflow formation, purity and quality of river waters, but also the general condition of delicate mountain ecosystems. For discussion all these problems and working out of common strategy on sustainable use of water resources of mountain territories, planned to organize regional conference called «The Pamirs – one of the sources of pure water of Central Asia». This conference will be held within the framework of World Water Summit, which planned to be held in September 2003. It should draw attention of governmental, economic, scientific, social institutions and Aral states to problems of forming, protection and wise use of region’s water resources. It also planned to investigate the role and prospect of the Pamirs’ development from the standpoint of huge potential resources of hydroelectric potential, mineral and thermal waters.
