Summary:
This Seminar provides an overview of the institutional and technical requirements of a successful dam safety, operation and maintenance program; provides a model for establishing or improving a dam safety program; increase the technical capabilities of those responsible for dam safety; and presents procedures and demonstrations, through site visits, for conducting dam safety examinations and evaluations.
The speakers will be experts/specialists from the Bureau of Reclamation with extensive experience and knowledge in the areas of design, construction, operation, maintenance and dam safety evaluation. The first portion of the Seminar will take place in Denver, Colorado and will consist primarily of classroom presentations and discussions. A tour of the Bureau of Reclamation Research Laboratories will also be featured. During the second week of the Seminar a study tour to the states of Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho, will focus on the dam safety program of the Bureau of Reclamation with abbreviated examinations of several facilities.
The Seminar will officially conclude on Thursday evening at a banquet dinner and close out reception. An optional guided tour (for an additional fee) to the internationally renowned Yellowstone National Park is planned for Friday, 26 September 26 2003.
