Summary:
The pollution discharged into the Venice lagoon by rivers, canals and streams flowing through the drainage basin represents a relevant contribution to the overall pollution budget of the lagoon.
The DRAIN project main objective is to provide a robust contribution to the quantitative understanding of fresh water and pollutants transfer from the drainage basin to the lagoon. The project focused particularly on nutrients, inorganic micropollutants and organic micropollutants and on the partitioning of these substances between particulate and dissolved phase.
A special outcome of the study was the calibration of new methodologies, set up and discussed with national and international experts, to evaluate the flow and the pollutant load, in particular for tide-affected water streams.
This workshop aims at presenting the major project results and at linking them with those available from national and international experiences.
