From 2004-09-06 to 2004-09-08
Venue: UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, France
Summary:
Prof Jean-Charles Fontes was a renowned authority in isotope geochemistry and Isotope hydrology, with more than 250 scientific publications. He founded and directed the "Laboratoire d'Hydrologie et de Géochimique Isotopique" at the Université de Paris-Sud, Orsay, France. He joined the International Atomic Energy Agency, in October 1993, where he was in charge of the Section of Isotope Hydrology. He died in a car accident on 1st February 1994, during a field mission to Mali. He was 57 years old.
The following areas of isotopic investigations and applications will be covered in the International Workshop :
-Precipitation
-Atmospheric vapour and green-house gases
-Surface waters and dissolved compounds
-Evaporation studies
-Groundwater (including thermal waters) and dissolved compounds
-Groundwater age determination
-Contamination and protection of water resources
-Palaeohydrology
-Climatology, palaeoclimatology and climatic change
-Environmental and palaeo-environmental changes.
A round-table discussion on the future of isotope techniques in hydrological and environmental investigations will conclude the Workshop. Emphasis will be placed on recently introduced isotopes and new developments and applications. Both oral and poster presentations are scheduled.
