From 2005-02-07 to 2005-02-11
Venue: Colombo, Sri Lanka
Summary:
One of the targets set by the World Summit on Sustainable Development is for all countries to put in place an integrated water resource management (IWRM) approach for their water management by 2005. Recognizing the need for networking and capacity - building in the implementation of IWRM, the Japan Water Agency, the Asian Development Bank, and ADBI decided to collaborate in launching the Network of Asian River Basin Organizations (NARBO), and signed a letter of intent at the 3rd World Water Forum in Kyoto on 21 March 2003. NARBO aims to achieve IWRM in river basins throughout Asia. As a result, the first NARBO training course was held in Thailand in July 2004 to exchange information and experience on participatory IWRM.
The objectives of this course are:
· To disseminate the basic principles and instruments of IWRM
· To facilitate the process of integrating IWRM into the management procedure of river basin organizations (RBOs)
· To share best practices of establishing and operating RBOs
· To build capacity for the management of RBOs in Asia.
