Summary:
The aim of the World Water Week in Stockholm is to serve as a link between practice, science, policy and decision-making in the search for sustainable solutions for water resources management. The purpose is to determine the relationship between problems and their main causes, on the one hand, and technology and governance perspectives of problem-solving on the other.

Different UN activities will be developed during the World Water Week 2005:

• Monday 22 A Plan to End Poverty: Meeting the Millennium Development Goals by Investing in Development. This side event will give an overview of the Millennium Development Goals and discuss the conclusions of the UN Millennium Project and its Task Force on Water and Sanitation.
• Wednesday 24 UN-Water Seminar. The 24 UN-system entities that work on water issues will outline different aspects of their work through UN-Water, particularly global monitoring and reporting activities.
• Thursday 25 Finance for Water Solutions: How Capital Markets, Banks, Insurers and Asset Managers Can Work for Water. The aim of this seminar is to bring together the private sector and policy-makers, setting a platform for dialogues to close the communication gaps that exist in terms of how to achieve more private sector participation in the topic of water through potential opportunities and investments.
From the Millennium Summit to 2015: Why Managing Water Resources and Expanding Water Supply and Sanitation Services is Vital to Meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – and What Needs to be Done. The United Nations heads-of-state summit in September 2005 offers an opportunity for agreeing on a practical plan of action for achieving the MDGs. This seminar will explore how goal-oriented water and sanitation strategies can spur progress toward all the MDGs.
