Summary:
Organizing HELECO was an initiative taken by the Technical Chamber of Greece. The Chamber represents 90,000 registered Greek engineers and is the Greek Government’s legislative organization on technical issues. HELECO consists of 2 parallel events: • an International Exhibition on Technology, which covers all major fields of environmental technology and attracts a wide range of Greek and foreign companies, as well as a number of corporations, Ministries, universities, institutes and non-governmental organizations • an International Conference, which also covers a wide range of cognitive fields relevant to environmental technology administered by a Scientific Committee consisting of Greek scientists and academicians. Water management is one of the key section–topics of HELECO’ 05. This topic includes: • new legislative framework for integrated water resources management • protection of coastal zones • transboundary pollution • surface water and groundwater pollution • new technologies • organization and operation of waste-water treatment plants.
