Summary:
Urban river rehabilitation and riverfront development has become a major field of interest in urban renewal. The interdisciplinarity and complexity of this field has posed major challenges for river engineers, environmental scientists, landscape architects, urban planners as well as city and water authorities and city dwellers. The conference will foster an exchange of urban river rehabilitation methods, techniques and experiences between scientists, practitioners and urban decision-makers, as well as between different professional groups.
The topics of the conference include:
• state of the art of urban river rehabilitation and water front development
• the Water Framework Directive and the rehabilitation of heavily modified water bodies in urban environments
• methods for ecological, social, aesthetic, economic and technical assessment
• planning and management issues, including participation and dissemination
• rehabilitation techniques
• indicators of success and post-project.
