Summary:
This course will provide a basic introduction to the dynamics of glaciers and ice sheets with a focus on ice-climate interactions (including ice cores).
The topics of this course include:
• continuum mechanics, ice flow and rheology
• analytical and numerical models of glaciers and ice sheets
• sliding and hydrology
• polar meteorology
• mass-balance modelling
• remote sensing
• ice cores
• valley glaciers and global warming
• geomorphology and mapping of paleo ice sheets
• ice sheets, geodynamics and sea level
• the role of ice sheets in the Cenozoic evolution of climate.
