Summary:
On the occasion of the World Water Day (WWD) celebrations on 22 March 2005, the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI), the organization responsible for the water resources development in the Turkey, will organize water-related events throughout the country. These events are intended to improve public awareness of the issues of safe water, effective sanitation, water projects for development, and the rational use of water resources. Among the many events to be held at the headquarter of DSI in Ankara are the following activities: An opening ceremony will be organized by DSI on the occasion of the WWD-2005, with the participation of the higher levels of the State. A poster competition is to be held on the WWD theme ‘Water for Life’, and the three best posters will be chosen. The poster that wins first prize will be produced and widely distributed. The highlight of the celebrations will be a composition and drawing competition held for 8th grade students from primary schools at the national level. This activity will be conducted in collaboration with the Education Ministry. The winners of the competition will also be selected.
