Summary:
Gramalaya is organizing World Water Day 2005 on March 22 at the Gramalaya Training Centre, in Kolakkudipatti, Tamil Nadu, India. About 20,000 women will participate in the event and share their experiences and success stories relating to water and sanitation. The programme is being supported by Water Partners International, USA and WaterAid, UK. Major funding for this event has been provided by WAVE – Women’s Action for Village Empowerment. This event will be one of the largest congregations of women from 300 villages in three blocks in the Tiruchirappalli District of Tamil Nadu. At the end of the conference, resolutions will be passed on issues relating to water and its conservation.
A press conference with be held with national and international clean water organizations, including CARE, Ethos International, Global Water, Global Green USA, Millennium Water Alliance, WaterAid, Waterlines and Water Partners International, among others.
These groups will issue a challenge to all Americans to 'take the pledge' on World Water Day 2005 by visiting the World Water Day 2005 website, which will be unveiled at the event, and then taking action in their day to day lives.
