Courses on Co-operation and Prevention of Conflicts in the Management of Transboundary Waters in South East Europe

Fifteen participants from almost all the south-eastern European countries met in Thessaloniki, Greece from 16 to 21 October 2006 to attend the pilot-course on Co-operation and Prevention of Conflicts in the Management of Transboundary Waters in South East Europe provided by 6 trainers from the Balkans and Israel.

The purpose of this pilot activity – involving professional jurists, scientists, diplomats, researchers, engineers and journalists – was to test, obtain feedback, and improve PCCP's educational material related to the co-operation and prevention of conflicts in the management of transboundary waters in south-eastern Europe.

The objectives of the course are three-fold:

  1. to improve local and regional knowledge on the Integrated Water Resources Management
  2. to improve the understanding of the process of conflict transformation and
  3. to provide instruments for negotiation and strengthen regional "water diplomacy"
