Below is a list of the World Water Assessment Programme partner UN agencies who have dedicated parts of their sites to Summit preparations.

 

United Nations Programmes:

UNEP logoUnited Nations Environment Programme - UNEP
Look for updates of UNEP presence at the Summit including reports from side events. UNEP will also be present at the Water Dome.

UNDP logoUnited Nations Development Programme - UNDP
The United Nations Development Programme is committed to ensuring that WSSD is a forum that will create fresh impetus to the international sustainable development process.

UNESCO logoUnited Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - UNESCO
This document sets out UNESCO's views and suggestions for inclusion in the Johannesburg WSSD agenda and future action by governments and other actors and stakeholders in support of sustainable development. Freshwater resources and supporting ecosystems are major focuses.

 

Specialized United Nations Agencies:

FAO logoFood and Agricultural Organization - FAO
As the task manager for many of the land-related chapters of Agenda 21 as well as a major partner in the implementation of several other chapters of Agenda 21 including Freshwater, the FAO is particularily involved in the preparations for the Summit.

UNIDO logoUnited Nations Industrial Development Organization - UNIDO
UNIDO has been active in both national and regional preparations towards the WSSD.

 

Regional Commissions:

  • United Nations Economic Commission for EUROPE - UNECE
    The regional preparatory process, that is conducted by UNECE in close cooperation with the UNEP regional office, has chosen a 'the whole of government' approach with a broad range of stakeholders invited to participate in the process.

  • United Nations Economic Commission for Asia and the Pacific - UNESCAP
    The WSSD Task Force Secretariat of UNESCAP has prepared a website providing information on preparatory meetings and documents on the region.

  • United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean - UNECLAL
    UNECLAL provides information regarding global and regional preparations of the Summit.

    ISDR logoInternational Strategy for Disaster Reduction- ISDR
    A good resource for the diaster risk and natural diasters and sustainable development as a theme at the World Summit on Sustainable Development.
