The Reel Intercultural Dialogue initiative;
A youthful take on humanity and conflict – projecting the need for peace

A series of five short fiction films on intercultural dialogue has been released through the Internet and on DVD in April 2004. Produced by UNESCO in collaboration with cinema and television schools of Burkina Faso, India, Israel, Mexico and Romania, the films (fully screenable on-line) aim at increasing inter-cultural understanding and sensitizing the younger generation on humanity’s need for tolerance, dialogue and peace. While providing a reflection on the sources of conflict between communities and cultures, the films present alternatives to violence and cultural domination.

The project has provided the opportunity to cinema and television schools to let their most talented students produce content aimed at a young audience that reflects local perspectives on global issues and to distribute it through the Internet to national and international media as well as to secondary schools worldwide.
