The Regional Organization for Europe of the International Federation of Information and Documentation (FID/ROE) is organizing from 1 to 2 March 1999 a workshop on information strategies in the 21th century at the Danube University Krems, Austria. The workshop, which will is being held in cooperation with the Austrian Society for Documentation and Information (ÖGDI) and the Austrian National Commission for UNESCO (ÖUK), will develop visions on the role of information in the 21st century and discuss realistic scenarios for their implementation. The regional focus on Europe is to be linked to the international, as well as the local levels. Topics cover information strategies and infrastructures, new trends in the education of information professionals, information management as a basis for knowledge economies, as well as the cultural dimensions of information. The multilingual dimension of Europe – and the world – developing towards a "multilingual information society" (MLIS) is duly taken into account.
