For several years now, UNESCO has been supporting the women television producers in the Pacific TV production and exchange project. So far, more than 16 women TV producers in Fiji, the Cook Islands, Niue, Tonga and Papua New Guinea have taken part in the exchange programme. UNESCO funded the cost of production and transportation for each participant to produce at least two documentaries: one on a development topic and the other on a subject selected by the producer herself. The Annual Pacific Women Television Award in which these productions are evaluated is also funded by UNESCO. In doing so, UNESCO and IPDC are strongly supporting women’s access to public discussions on the environment, sustainable development and youth.
