How to provide technological information to small and medium enterprises in remote areas in Brazil’s Rio Grande do Norte province? A UNESCO project now tests the use of a "TecMóvel", a car transporting a mobile information unit, to bring the required technological information to the enterprises. Project Coordinator Marcos José de Santos Guerra says "Surveys on user needs have shown that the main information needs are in the area of textile, natural gas, food and environment".
The methodology behind the operations of the TecMóvel includes user needs surveys, gathering of national and international information sources, staff and user training, soft and hardware installation and pilot tests.
The potential users are particularly pleased by the fact that through the TecMóvel they can access information without maintaining a specialized in-house information team. For good quality services TecMóvel staff has to be aware of industrial innovations and new information services in the various fields of activities of their clients. The small and medium enterprises using the service pay only for the visit to the TecMóvel where they have unlimited access to technological information.
The project, which is being financed by Brazil’s National Industrial Training Service (Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Industrial, SENAI), includes training abroad in the area of technological information marketing.
