The Uganda Martyrs University in Nkozi, some 80 km west of Kampala, enters the next phase of its development programme as it starts to build its library. The new building with an estimated cost of $200,000 will not only provide traditional library services, but also give access to the Internet through 50 workstations. "International assistance is needed to complete our ambitious construction programme" Vice Chancellor Michel Lajeune says.

The Uganda Martyrs University was officially launched in March 1991 by Uganda's President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. The first Academic Year opened in October 1993 with more than 80 students from all parts of Uganda. Currently the University has 215 fully residential students following various degree and diploma courses. The University is fully recognised by the Ministry of Education in Uganda and its degrees are conferred autonomously.
