ManuFreT is special software for scholars to work with digital copies of manuscripts and old printed books. The copies stored on the CD-ROM can be accessed with the help of this program in the form of a virtual book.

ManuFreT enables easy page-by-page browsing as well as search in descriptive data.  The ManuFreT version on this CD-ROM is full version.

However, the Internet users can install it also from this server. To do it, you must download the self extracting archive manufret.exe. After having dowloaded it, double-click on the self extracting manufret.exe file and let it be extracted into the predefined directory called MANUFRET on your hard drive. This installation contains the following components:

  • ManuFreT program for the work with the digital copies of manuscripts and old printed books. You can start it with the clicking on the manufret icon, which will be placed after installation in your manufret directory
  • GenTemp program for generation of templates (forms) for entry of metadata descriptions
  • GenHTML program for generation of the structure of the digittal document on the basis of the description made in the template generated by GenTemp
  • a short sample of several pages of a richly described manuscript; this manuscript will be placed in the MANUFRET/EN subdirectory
To access the manuscript sample, you can either do it in an Internet browser by going to the DESCR.HTM in the above mentioned subdirectory or start the MANUFRET program and let it index your manuscript sample. This is done by finding the MNSXDEF.INF file in the MANUFRET directory (the software usually tries to find it the CD-ROM drive so that you must change it in the menu).
