This CD-ROM contains a short sample of several pages from the
manuscript Codex Pictoricus Mexicanus (part).
Its purpose is to demonstrate how the digital copy is stored and described. The Internet users receive this example together with the downloaded special access software. They can also try its remote Internet version.
In addition,
there are two entire manuscripts on the CD-ROM. These are not available for Internet users:
Labirynt sveta a lusthauz srdce (English version or Czech
version)
Knizky sestery o obecných vecech krestanskych
(English version or Czech
version).
The Internet users, however, can enjoy of several digitized manuscripts if they go to our digitization server and consult the database of already digitized manuscripts of which many have been mounted on the server. It is to be said in this case that you will be able to work only with image files up to the low Internet quality (JPEG ca. 150 KB) and only in the WWW browser. Also some manuscripts on the WWW can be in the old DOBM structure so that you must use the examples where the DOBM format 2.1 is declared. You will recognize it easily, because in the beginning of each DOBM file will be the declaration as follows:
<!DOCTYPE DOBM PUBLIC "-//AIP//DTD DOBM 2.1//EN">
Of course, you are invited also to look at the documents in the old structure, but do not do it for the purpose of learning the recommended structure of digital documents.
You can also listen to digitized sound recordings - DUSÍK, Jan Ladislav: Sonáta fis-moll, op. 61
(Sonata F sharp minor). If willing to do it on the WWW (in MPEG3 format), go to our digitization Home Page and start from it.
To do it, you need a sound card and software enabling you to play not
only the WAVE format, but also MPEG3 files. It is recommended to install the Microsoft
Media Player which you will find on the Microsoft Home
Page. Or you can install the Apollo player from this CD-ROM or from our Home Page (go from the first page to the digital sample music page - it is easy to find it by browsing).
To access these digital copies, use a WWW browser (the latest versions
recommended - or at least Netscape Navigator 3.0 or higher or MSIE 2.0 or higher). To be
able to listen to music, your comfort depends on the configuration and possibilities of
your concrete browser.
However, if you really want to enjoy the manuscripts, install the ManuFreT access software from this disc. It will create for you
surprisingly comfortable study environment suitable especially for scholars (Internet users without the CD-ROM can use it only with the short - but very rich and beautiful - manuscript sample).
Please, note that all the above mentioned original manuscripts and sound recordings are
from the collections of the National Library of the Czech Republic.
