The European Commission and UNESCO foster peace-building in Somalia.
As a follow-up to a UNDP-funded UNESCO project on Civic Education for Good Governance and Development, the present project, funded by the European Commission aims at assisting communities at the grass-roots level with the view of the re-knitting of the social fabric in the different parts of the country together through a process of dialogue, interaction and exchange of views and information. The project closely links peace building and community-based communication. To this aim, the Peace Resources Centers and Community Groups previously established shall be reinforced and new ones shall be created. Support shall be provided to radio production and broadcasting of programmes providing civic education and encouraging a culture of peace to local populations, and co-operation shall be reinforced among and with radio stations in the sub-region. Women participation in the peace-building process shall be promoted, including through networking of women associations. A peace and conflict prevention monitoring system shall be developed.
- Establishment and development of a communication and information framework to support peace-building
