The Tibetan Archives

The Tibetan literature, emerging in the 7th century, covers, in addition to the rich corpus of religious texts, a wide range of literature from legend and tales, to historiography and philosophy. These documents were mainly kept by monasteries where there were subject of research and of tools of furthering Tibetan culture and traditions. An important part of this documentary heritage is now under the custodianship of the Tibetan Regional Archives. The archival holdings reflect the political, economic, religious and cultural life of the Tibetan people.
